Comment: whilst the stages are fairly standard, there is one alteration to the usual scene. Unlike Da Vinci's playing around with John, with feminine features and possible suggestions of gay love reflecting his own, that the author Dan Brown then used to suggest Mary Magdalene's presence, I've put Mary Magadalene in, on the basis that she was a principal helper and supporter of the Nazarene group. That the group look like a band of outlaws (almost) is entirely deliberate - and so is Mary Magdalene looking European and out of place. The yellow suggests resurrection. Note that this was photographed with flash (in the church) and the large canvas produced angled sides and so more infilling than usual has been added at the sides for this presentation. |
